Computer Shopping!

Beginners guide to finding great deals online when purchasing a new computer.

Myth: I need to spend $1500 - $2000 to buy a new computer.
Fact: You can get a GREAT computer online from places like Dell Outlet (GOOGLE: Dell Outlet) - you can get a new computer for $200 - $350 that will last just as long as the $2000 one and work just as well.

Most people invest a large amount of money in a computer thinking it will last a long time, the reality is the expensive ones get old as fast as the lower cost ones do.

What do you really need?
Don't buy used from a website like CraigsList!  You can usually get a better deal online on websites like Dell Outlet, Tiger Direct, or eBay.  Make sure you buy NEW.  I also recommend you purchase a name brand, like Dell, HP.  Avoid Acer, eMachines, Gateway, and the "bargain" brands.  Dell and HP offer Excellent support.

Look for at least 2GB Memory (as of 2009) - normally you don't need a HUGE hard drive, 250GB is fine.  I only have a 80GB drive in my laptop and its fine, and I live on my computer.  Any processor will be fine - for normal every day tasks you can get by with anything.
